When setting up your newborn’s nursery there are so many things that you need to consider. Of course, getting everything ready for your little one’s arrival is at the top of the list. Although, your comfort should be a number one priority too. Being a new mama is very demanding and anything to make life a little easier should be implemented in your babies nursery.
The first thing that you should consider is a comfortable place to sit. You’ll be spending a lot of time sitting down, feeding, napping and everything in between. Your body goes through so many changes during pregnancy and postpartum. Giving your body the chance to recover in small ways can help so much. So simply having a place to put your feet up, relax and enjoy every moment with your little bundle of joy can make a world of difference! Actually, simply putting your feet up can help improve circulation in your legs, reduce the appearance of those unwanted varicose veins and it can even help prevent blood clots.
Having just the right amount of pillows is a must! Sometimes those nursing chairs don’t always provide the best support, so make sure you test it out before the baby gets here. Get some extra pillows to put behind your back, under your arm and even behind your head. Make sure they are comfortable pillows, but also make sure they match with your nurseries theme! When things are visually appealing it instantly makes for a more calming environment for you, and if you are calm that means your little one will be calm too.
Let’s talk about lighting! The average room has one light in the center of the room, and most of the time there is only one brightness level. The first thing I would do is switch that main light to a dimmer light. You can have it all the way up when you are changing your little one and turn it way down when it’s nap-time. In addition, adding some extra lighting in specific spots can help mama a ton! So think about adding an extra lamp next to the changing table, crib and comfy chair that you will be spending most of your time in. This gives you quick access to extra light when you need it, without having to walk all the way to the other side of the room to turn on the main light.
The last thing I want to talk about is simply having one space to do multiple things. Wherever you decide to put your chair, have an area within arms length where you can have access to things that you might need. This will help tremendously when you can’t go anywhere because you are feeding your newborn, or if you just don’t want to get up from your comfy spot. In this reachable area you might want to think about having things like a throw blanket, feeding supplies for baby, a snack for you, a book, drinks, and a cell phone charger. The other are of the nursery you should designate to multiple tasks should be the changing table. You can’t leave baby unattended while he’s here, so you should make sure that this area has a place for baby wipes, diapers, clean clothes, diaper rash cream, nasal aspirator, nail clippers and any other baby essentials that you can think of.
